Compared to many other places in California, the Peninsula hasn't exactly been the most well-known spot for find good chicken. But with more chicken places on the rise, I figured I'd try Starbird Chicken in Foster City. Having been in the area for many years, I've always been curious about this standalone location and finally decided to give them a try. Coming into the area on a Thursday around 12:00PM, the parking lot was packed full. There were so many people here in fact that many trucks were double parked in the lot. Entering into the restaurant, there was a good amount of people inside. Although there were a few people dining in, it seemed that the majority of the people were waiting to take their food to go. Starbird Chicken uses a digital ordering system and had three kiosks open during the time I was there. But should you want to order the conventional way, there is one regular register available. For this visit, I chose the 4 Piece Classic Tender Box which was $14.97 and a small tropical lemonade at $2.47. I was alerted that my order was completed by both a text message sent to my phone and two large screens at the front of the restaurant. And to that fact, the food was ready in a matter of 5 minutes which I appreciated. Taking my items out of the bag, I was able to make out a small fries, a coleslaw, and the tenders themselves. Each tender box allows you to choose from a variety of sauces. And for this visit, I chose to try the Blazin' Ranch and the Star Sauce. Gathering all of the items, about 70% of the portion size was chicken which was a good ratio. And looking at each piece, there was a good portion of white meat inside. Fifteen dollars is a bit on the higher side when looking at the price of fast food in the Foster City area. But for what you are getting, I'd argue the price to portion is pretty good. From what I could tell, all of the food tastes hand-crafted and of very good quality. Beginning with the lemonade, the food tasted sweet but not too sugary. I especially enjoyed that I was able to taste the fruits in the lemonade which made it that more refreshing. Moving on to the coleslaw next, the mix of kale, red cabbage, green cabbage, and carrots made for a unique mix. While some of the vegetables tasted light, others balanced the slaw out and made It taste more dynamic which I enjoyed. Next, the fries were pretty simple as they were lightly salted and lightly crispy. But nonetheless they were very good. For last, the chicken was lightly breaded and very crispy. With a light seasoning, it had flavor and was delicious. What made the chicken the best was the moisture of the white meat and the selection of sauces. The Blazin' Ranch had a tame spice and was also sweet which added on more flavor to the chicken. As for the Star Sauce, it was thicker in consistency and sweeter than the ranch which wasn't too bad either. In all, the chicken was very good and I would definitely get the tenders again. Even though Starbird Chicken might seem to be a small, unassuming fast food restaurant, don't take this place for granted! From the streamlined ordering system and fast service to the amount of food given and the decent price, I couldn't ask for anything more. By no means is this the top of the mill place for chicken, but the fact their meat does not have antibiotics is enough of a reason to give this place a try. Be sure to come during non-peak times to avoid jams in the parking lot. But other than this, I'd argue Starbird Chicken is a solid 4 star place to visit. Great food!

I came here super late and wanted to try it before I went home. There's a bunch of parking and is close to the freeway. The place was super clean and the staff was hella nice. Everyone hyped it up and I thought it deserved it. I ended up getting the thai tenders. It was good, not too salty. Next time I will try to grab the nashville hot. The drinks were hella good, the different sodas and lemonades. What got me was that damn thai iced tea. That is dangerous, free refills on that? HAHA. That's like the charged lemonade type, the 6th loko. I would go back again.

Hadn't had Starbird as of late, so my brother and I, taking advantage of the nice weather, decided to drive on over to get takeout and eat it at the nearby Leo J. Ryan park. Ordered the Nashville Hotbird and an 8-count of boneless wings (buffalo) with ranch, blue cheese, and honey mustard dip. I've gotta say, I'm rocking with the new buns. Previously, Starbird's sandwiches came on this long sub-like bread. This meant the toppings would be unevenly distributed, and you would almost always end up with one end of the sandwich being only slaw and condiments. These new buns are normal burger buns (very shiny ones, at that) and make for a much more equal eating experience. The chicken on my sandwich was a bit small, but the quality was there. The meat was crispy, had a manageable kick, and a welcome acidity from the pickles. Aside from needing more Greek yogurt ranch and being a little oily, it was a tasty sandwich. The boneless wings were large and saucy, just how I like them. I had a bad experience with Starbird wings at the airport (one was undercooked), but thankfully, there was nothing wrong these. The Greek yogurt ranch and blue cheese dips were both great, being creamy and zesty as well as smoky and pungent, respectively. The mustard didn't really go well with the wings, and I have no idea why we even ordered it in the first place. If you're local for some upscale fried chicken, get the cluck over to your local Starbird.

Good taste. First time trying Starbird. We had Seoul star, Starbird, and Nashville. But I like Nashville the least. Too dry for me, no flavor just spicy. Seoul and Starbird are good! We also ordered wings. The sauces are good. We had blazin' ranch, blue cheese, honey BBQ, and Thai sweet chili. My son loves the Thai iced tea too. Ambiance and cleanliness are okay.

It's been some time since coming here, but on a adventure to Foster City Costco, I decided to give it a shot. I'm glad I did. The Korean Chicken Sandwich was a subtle but nice flavor, and at a very good price point. The Thai salad was extremely tasty and a very good size for 2 people to share (or 1 very hungry person to be satisfied). I was intrigued by the wings, and I like the ability to order half bone-in/half boneless with two different flavors (far more flexibility than Wingstop, and cheaper per wing). The Thai sauce was very tasty, with a good spice and sweetness. The best parts were the craft soda choices that your can grab and refill yourself, very clean and open interior, and the staff. I give kudos to the guy at the register who told me to wait while he checked. He took out each item to check it off the receipt and made sure that the order was completely in the bag. That alone was enough to make me excited to come back again.
